Using the AI Chat

AI Features

Opening the AI Chat

  1. Click "AI Chat" in the sidebar.
  2. Click "New AI Chat" to start a new conversation.
  3. Your chat history is listed in the left panel. Click any previous conversation to resume it.

Asking Questions About Your Notes

Type any question in the message box and press Enter. The AI searches your documents, reads their content, and gives you a synthesized answer. Examples:

  • "What did I write about project deadlines last month?"
  • "Summarize my meeting notes from this week."
  • "Find all notes mentioning client X."
  • "Compare what I wrote about topic Y across different notes."

What the AI Can Do Automatically

The AI can instantly perform these read-only actions without asking for your permission:

  • Search your documents (keyword and semantic)
  • Browse your folder structure
  • List your tags
  • Read the full content of any document

These actions are safe - they don't change anything in your workspace.

Actions That Need Your Approval

When you ask the AI to change something, it shows a plan with an "Approve Plan" button. Nothing changes until you click "Approve Plan". You can also click "Reject" to cancel. Actions that require approval include:

  • Move documents between folders
  • Delete files or folders
  • Create or rename folders
  • Create, rename, or delete tags
  • Add or remove tags from documents
  • Create saved filters

Practical Use Cases

  • Find scattered information - "What dates did I mention for the project launch?"
  • Summarize a topic - "Summarize everything I've written about marketing strategy."
  • Reorganize your workspace - "Move all documents tagged 'Archive' into the 'Old' folder."
  • Bulk-tag documents - "Tag all documents in the 'Meetings' folder with the 'Work' tag."
  • Create saved filters - "Create a saved filter for PDF documents uploaded this month."

Managing Chat History

Chat conversations are saved and listed in the sidebar. To manage them:

  • Hover over a chat to see the delete button (trash icon). Click it to delete the conversation.
  • Click the envelope icon on any assistant message to mark the chat as unread for later.

Tips for Better Results

Be specific. "Summarize my notes tagged 'Meeting' from this week" works better than "What are my notes about?". Mention specific folders, tags, or date ranges when relevant. The more context you give, the more precise the answer.

FAQ

Does the AI have access to all my documents?

Yes. The AI can search and read all documents in your workspace. It uses your document transcripts, memories, tags, and folder structure to answer your questions.

Can the AI delete documents without my permission?

No. All destructive actions require you to click "Approve Plan" first. The AI will never modify your workspace without explicit approval.

Does the AI Chat use credits?

Yes. Each AI interaction consumes credits from your workspace balance. See Saved Filters for ways to reduce repetitive queries by saving filter combinations instead.
