Memories — AI-Extracted Knowledge

AI Features

What Are Memories?

Memories are key facts, dates, and insights that Notoria's AI extracts from your documents during processing. They serve as persistent context that the AI Chat uses to give better, more informed answers about your workspace.

Viewing Your Memories

  1. Click "Memories" in the sidebar.
  2. All extracted memories are listed, each as a short statement (up to 244 characters) capturing a specific fact or date from your documents.

How Memories Are Created

Memories are extracted automatically during the AI Enrichment step of the document processing pipeline. When the AI identifies an important fact, date, or relationship in your notes, it creates a memory. Examples:

  • "Project launch date moved to March 15th"
  • "Client prefers email communication over phone"
  • "Q2 budget approved at $50,000"

Managing Memories (Admin Only)

Workspace admins can manage memories from the "Memories" page:

  • Create - click "New Memory" and type the fact you want to add. This is useful for adding context the AI didn't extract automatically.
  • Edit - click on any memory to modify its content.
  • Enable / Disable - toggle individual memories on or off. Disabled memories are ignored by the AI Chat but not deleted, so you can re-enable them later.
  • Delete - permanently remove a memory.

How the AI Uses Memories

When you chat with the AI, all enabled memories are included as background context. This means the AI can reference facts from across your entire document collection without searching every time. If the AI gives an answer that draws on a specific fact - like a date or a preference - it may be referencing a memory extracted from a previous document.

FAQ

Who can see memories?

All workspace members can view memories. Only admins can create, edit, enable/disable, or delete them.

Can I prevent the AI from extracting memories from a specific document?

Not on a per-document basis. Memory extraction happens automatically during processing. You can disable or delete any individual memories you don't want the AI to use after they've been created.

Do memories count toward my credit usage?

Memory extraction is part of document processing, which uses credits. Storing and using existing memories in the AI Chat does not consume additional credits beyond the chat interaction itself.
